From first visit to move in, you’re met with one big, happy family of expertise and support.

You might say that home builder and developer, Ted Furtelle gave birth to GlenLaurel Preserve — conceived, nurtured, raised and proudly shares photos of the beautiful homes and amenities he designed and built with the help of his interior designer wife, Carole, and their site-supervisor son, Dan. Way back in 2005, Ted acquired the land in order to protect and preserve what he found to be an extraordinary setting. His vision for a private community was put on hold during the recession of 2008 while his home building company, MountainSide Homebuilders remained consistently busy.

Now, as a partner in the 250-home site development, Ted is proud of the many facets of the community — the picturesque amphitheater setting, the clubhouse, the walking trails that connect the community to 500,000 acres of beauty in Pisgah National Forest, the community fire pit and the many special gathering places where neighbors share the beauty that surrounds them. In fact, with an eye to the future, fifty percent of the land has been set aside to remain protected and undeveloped.

From the beginning, careful planning has resulted in a mountain life of ease, from road placement with limited switchbacks to make traveling through the community quick and easy to public water and sewer, underground utilities including natural gas to high speed Internet service.

The setting and conveniences here are of a standard you would expect to find in a community at twice or three times the price.

The sweet spot for everyday mountain living.

GlenLaurel Preserve not only offers the sweet spot for new homes in the area in terms of location, but also the sweet spot for middle-market of home size and price that had been missing in the Brevard area.

MountainSide Home Builders offer a wide variety of well-designed, quality-built homes in Arts & Crafts style with stacked stone and shake exteriors. All homes are built with GreenWave technology that meets and exceeds Energy Star standards and include open floor plans with soaring vaulted ceilings, master suites on the main level, expansive gourmet kitchens, two gas fireplaces, and outdoor living on screened porches and covered decks. Extraordinary attention to detail is readily apparent in the attractive appointments not usually seen at this price point. Add to all this the two-car garages, and the Courtyard Collection is a perfect living choice for empty nesters or second homes. MountainSide Home Builders’ in-house design studio can arrange a multitude of custom appointments and details to make your home unique.

Newly constructed townhomes nearing completion. These cedar shake and stone accent homes are beautifully finished and include hardwood floors, granite countertops and a gas fireplace The 3 bedroom 3 and 1/2 bath floor plans include city sewer, city water, a 2-car garage and back up to a beautiful creek within the community.

Meet Susan Zucchelli. A new chapter in her life brought unexpected joys as she has created a perfect new home with the help of her MountainSide Home Builders family.

Susan Zucchelli describes the home buying and building experience at GlenLaurel Preserve very simply. “It’s been pure joy!” She and her husband had come to the Brevard area from the California wine country. They fell in love with the Western North Carolina lifestyle and never looked back. After Susan’s husband passed away, she found that their 3,600 square foot home in Glen Cannon was too much for one person to enjoy. She put it on the market and it sold in three weeks.

Her home search through the area had only turned up cookie cutter homes with no personality, until a friend heard a radio spot for GlenLaurel Preserve and they decided to explore. The community was just as it was billed. She couldn’t believe something so pastoral and rustically beautiful was tucked away yet so close to downtown Brevard.

At first, Susan thought she would select a townhome from the Headwaters Series, but while scouting the community, she discovered a single-family home site that said “welcome home.” When she met with Ted and Carole Futrelle she told them she found her place. Ted said, “Let me guess, lot # three?” That was the one! And from then on, Susan was swept up in a family of support with care and guidance provided by Ted, Carole and Dan. All questions were answered. All guidance was sound. All options and lines of communication were open. Every step of the way, the Futrelles made sure that Susan’s home — selected from the Pinnacle collection of the Artisan Series — would be her one-of-a kind sanctuary. She calls the Futrelles the “Chip and Joanna Gaines of Brevard.” She says, “I always felt connected with every phase of the process and knew what was going on, and if I had a question, I only had to call. They not only helped me make the best choices but explained the rationale behind them.”

Susan moved into in her new home in April, and has enjoyed walking along the streams and joining new friends around the fire pit. She and her husband had always dreamed of building their dream home. She’s pleased and proud she was able to complete that dream on her own, with the help of a very special family.

What’s next for Susan? “Well, I just might become a one-person Welcome Wagon for GlenLaurel Preserve!”
