Champion Hills and Fazio Golf – Hendersonville NC

Warm Friendships, Fazio Golf and Affordable Luxury

We love the drive to Champion Hills Community. It’s situated in the Western North Carolina mountains, convenient to the charming Southern towns of Hendersonville and Flat Rock. The tree-lined lanes of this beautiful area lead to interesting shops, dining, renowned theatres and a downtown that hosts popular festivals and events throughout the year including an apple festival that is the highlight of the fall season.

Hendersonville is entered into the National Register of Historic Places and shoppers delight in the many boutiques, gift shops and antique stores along the historic main street. Carl Sandburg’s home in nearby Flat Rock, is an interesting place to explore the life of one of our nation’s best poets, and the Flat Rock Playhouse, the state theatre for North Carolina is renowned for its performances.

Champion Hills is just a short, 10-minute drive from Hendersonville, 30 minutes from Asheville and less than an hour from Greenville and Spartanburg. Once you pass through its entrance, you feel as if you have entered your own mountain paradise.

A Resident-Owned, Debt-Free Community

Even after the recent economic times that hurt many private communities and clubs, Champion Hills is remarkably healthy and well-funded. The community has significant financial reserves, and the club is member-owned and financially sound. During 2010, more than 20 new members joined and the membership voted to enhance the club’s amenities. Scheduled for completion in time for summer, these enhancements include an expanded wellness center, a sports bar and lounge area, and an al fresco dining terrace with sweeping mountain vistas. The great thing about Champion Hills is that the amenities are all in place, paid for, and the club members are committed to keeping Champion Hills an exceptional place to live and play.

A Fazio Favorite

Tom Fazio has built many great golf courses, but he has a special fondness for Champion Hills—and not just because it is consistently ranked among the top 10 courses in North Carolina.
“On the outskirts of Hendersonville, we built one of our most beautiful golf courses on one of the most dramatic and challenging pieces of terrain I have seen…Champion Hills is a perfect representation of my design philosophy—a golf course that looks hard and plays easy,” says Fazio. “I am proud to call Champion Hills my summer home golf course.”
Champion Hills features five sets of tees to accommodate every skill level. The setting is simply spectacular, with no homes encroaching on the course and 14 holes that play downhill, reducing the number of blind shots that you find at most mountain courses.

A True Sense of Community

Champion Hills has an inviting, welcoming feeling that not only comes from the beautiful setting, but also from the more than 300 families that call Champion Hills home. Many residents bought property thinking they were building or buying a vacation home, but soon decided to live here on a more permanent basis. Today, over half the residents live at Champion Hills 12 months of the year, and the golf course, social events, and activities are continuous year-round.
The clubhouse is the social center of community life. The on-site recreation director and activities director keep members active, informed and always discovering something new. It doesn’t take long for newcomers to feel engaged in the community and the myriad of clubs, groups, and activities. The connectivity among the diverse members of the community is readily apparent. People reach out to each other and to the outside community as well, getting involved wherever there is a need or interest.

What’s New at Champion Hills?

Aside from the new amenities featured at the clubhouse, Champion Hills offers a diverse range of living options from custom single family homes to “lock and leave” maintenance-free villas and the new Azalea Ridge townhomes located along holes 4 and 5. Although Champion Hills has been in existence for over 20 years and is established and complete, there are still spectacular home sites available where you can design and build your own dream home.

Meet Jim Bolonda
Jim and his wife Linda came here from Marco Island, FL, to visit friends and ended up making Champion Hills their home.

“We initially discovered Champion Hills through some friends who were in the process of building their home here and invited us to visit,” said Jim. “We were immediately impressed with the scenery and the genuine hospitality of the people we met. Then we discovered the golf course!”
The next year, Jim and Linda had planned an extensive trip to New Zealand and Australia, but decided they would rather spend their time visiting Champion Hills instead. When they returned, they were again overwhelmed with the same favorable impressions.
“We thought we lived in paradise on Marco Island,” says Jim, “but we were soon convinced that Champion Hills was yet another kind of paradise, and it offered the mild change of seasons and the change of elevations that we had missed while living in Florida. Under the vast Carolina blue skies, you feel warm even in the winter, and we can play golf year-round.”
It wasn’t long before Jim and Linda were building their own home at Champion Hills, and they have enjoyed living here full-time since 2007.
“I play golf two or three times a week, and Linda loves all the many activities that come with the membership and friendships here,” says Jim. “It takes no time to feel at home and fully engaged in this community. It’s really a special place.”
