Led by Founder and President, Harry Redfearn, Private Mountain Communities is recognized as the leading authority on community living in Western North Carolina. With more than 100 years of combined experience in private residential and resort communities, the team at Private Mountain Communities has completed extensive on-site research to understand the unique characteristics of each Western North Carolina community. Unlike a traditional real estate experience, our community advisors don’t list or sell property. Instead, we provide an approach that saves our customers time and ultimately, helps them make a more informed decision.
Harry Redfearn – Founder and President
Harry has worked in resort, private residential and lifestyle-based planned community industries for over 30 years. His extensive background in senior management and consulting roles has been a valuable asset for many of the premier developments in Western North Carolina including The Cliffs Communities and Balsam Mountain Preserve.
In 2005, Harry formed Private Mountain Communities—a real estate advisory service that provides consumers with an independent buyer’s resource. He opened the PMC Discovery Showroom in downtown Asheville, showcasing the communities of Western North Carolina in the region’s most comprehensive preview center.
Harry is actively involved in giving back to the greater Asheville community. He currently serves on the Eblen Charities’ Advisory Board and is a frequent speaker at the Southeast Land and Real Estate Conference, as well as the North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement. On Harry’s days off he enjoys running, fitness training, golf, and boating.
Lori Philips – Broker Realtor
Born and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida, Lori Philips attended and graduated from Florida State University. In 1998, she and her husband, Brian, decided to move to Western North Carolina to raise their family. They chose Western North Carolina because of the warm, friendly people, the four mild seasons and better quality of life. As a child, her fondest memories are of summer family gatherings at Lake Toxaway. Their family now enjoys a ‘simpler’ way of life that includes tennis, boating, horseback riding and hiking with their golden retriever.
With over twenty-five years of diversified sales experience, Lori’s customers benefit from her extensive knowledge of luxury real estate. Since 1999, she has specialized in private communities and luxury second homes in Western North Carolina. As a buyer’s broker, she works for you and finds it very gratifying to help families find their mountain home. “For me, moving to the mountains of Western North Carolina was like coming home again. I’ve always dreamed of moving to the mountains. Now, I have fulfilled my dream and have the pleasure and ability to help others do the same.”
Jenny Slagle – Broker Realtor
Jenny Slagle is quick to call Asheville her hometown. The daughter of a real estate developer (father) and managing broker (mother) who have more than 60 years of experience between them, Jenny’s passion for real estate began to grow by osmosis. For over 13 years now, she has made real estate her own career, developing and strengthening skills in residential areas of the industry such as land, lots, and homes within amenity communities.
She has extensive on-site sales experience from working at The Settings communities, The Ramble Biltmore Forest, and Grand Highlands at Bearwallow Mountain, and has experience as a buyer’s representative with many other communities. She loves helping her clients begin to see how the lay of the land can naturally translate into the living space they’ve envisioned.
“The Asheville area offers opportunities for both leisurely and adventure-seeking lifestyles simultaneously, and that seems to be what so many people are looking for when they relocate to Western North Carolina. I’m very familiar with both aspects—I grew up riding and showing horses, attending several of the area’s famous summer camps, hiking these beautiful mountains and rafting our enticing rivers.”
When she isn’t selling her love for the Asheville area, she enjoys time spent with her husband in their Black Mountain cottage. She enjoys running, walks, hikes, visits to Biltmore, meals at her favorite restaurants and entertaining family and friends in the backyard.
Shannon Garrett – Broker Realtor
Originally hailing from Northern Virginia’s Horse Country, Shannon grew up deeply immersed in all things equestrian—from competitive show jumping to training and teaching classes. After graduating from Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree in English and sociology, she relocated to the DC area and began a position with a nonprofit group—creating opportunities for adults with severe and profound disabilities. She then spent 10 years as an independent living consultant/job developer and was an integral part of moving people from controlled, institutional living situations into a new world, which allowed for, as she said, “open doors, choices and yes I can attitudes.”
After visiting and falling madly in love with Asheville and the Blue Ridge Mountains 12 years ago, she decided to call the city of Asheville her forever home. Since starting her career in real estate 10 years ago with The Cliffs Communities, she has been fortunate to work with some of the premier, master planned communities in Western North Carolina. Shannon’s dedication to the entire relocation experience is apparent in her ability to truly listen to each client and creatively pair their needs and desires, ultimately resulting in perfect solutions. In her spare time, you can find Shannon enjoying being a fitness enthusiast and devout yogi or on a horse!
