Hold your horses! Don’t miss Tryon if equestrian sports are your thing, or if you just like watching these noble creatures. For more than 50 years, equestrian challenges such as steeplechase, dressage, jumping and carriage-driving have been pursued here. From May until October events are hosted by The Tryon Riding and Hunt Club, FENCE (Foothills Equestrian Center) and other organizations.
Money Magazine and The Wall Street Journal have listed Tryon as one of “the top ten retirement communities.” The Tryon/Saluda/Columbus area offers a wide range of activities, including golf, hiking and wine tasting. Ten vineyards provide grapes for local and regional wineries.
Many bed & breakfasts and inns are available, including the Pine Crest Inn, once host to F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway.
