This idyllic mountain town is best known for the many waterfalls in the surrounding region. Sapphire is in the Brevard metro area. The community was named for the presence of sapphires in the region, the crystal blue sky and clear mountain water.  Nearby parks and recreation include Gorges State Park, Horse Pasture River and Falls, Nantahala National Forest and Whitewater Falls Scenic Area.
