This community was named appropriately due to its popularity with anglers. Franklin Roosevelt discovered its charms. So did F. Scott Fitzgerald. But it was Hollywood that really put Lake Lure on the map as the setting for “Dirty Dancing” and “The Last of the Mohicans.” Chimney Rock is nearby and is nearly as beautiful to view from afar as it is to climb the natural rock formation and look out at the sweeping vistas.
The Lake Lure Inn, built in 1927 has been recently restored to its original splendor of the days when Emily Post stayed there, and now includes a spa. Pontoon boats glide along the lake, some with tour groups. The mountains rise from the lake to create a spectacular setting. There is a beach with a water park here that all area residents may enjoy upon showing local identification.
