Known as the “front porch of America,” the town of Black Mountain was named for the Black Mountain Range. Located within the Asheville metro area, this community enjoys all the arts and entertainment benefits of its close neighbor, but the town itself also offers a 10-block Main Street with its own charms. Antique shops, art galleries, restaurants and entertainment are waiting to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. The Swannanoa Museum offers a glimpse of the past.

Home to the Cherokee Indians for 5,000 years, settlers arrived in 1784. After the railroad came to the mountain in 1884 visitors began arriving, attracted by the climate and natural beauty. They are still arriving daily for the same reasons.
